CCPRA Rodeo rider

CCPRA Rodeo

As Willits Frontier Days has since its inception in 1927, two performances of the CCPA rodeo take place.

Both rodeo performances feature top-ranked cowboys and cowgirls in the State of California who compete in the eight rodeo events: Bareback, Saddleback, Team Roping, Calf Roping, Steer Wrestling, Breakaway Roping, Barrel Racing and Bullriding.

Rodeo stock contractors, West Coast Rodeos, owned by the Lou Bugenig and Mora families of Humboldt County, are known throughout the State as premier contractors. Their rough stock challenges the top-ranked riders in the state, and the steers and calves are the fastest you'll see!

A trophy buckle is awarded to the CCPRA All Around Champion. This beautiful buckle is hand-engraved by Gary Johnson. Willits Frontier Days also awards $600.00 per event to the jackpot prize.

In addition to the eight rodeo events, local cowboys and cowgirls from Lake, Mendocino and Humboldt Counties compete in Local Team Roping events. Trophy buckles are awarded to the Local Team Roping Header and the Local Team Roping Heeler, and are also engraved by Gary Johnson.

Throughout the rodeo events the Black Bart Gunfighters keep the crowd jumping and amused.
